Hon Andrew Thom­son (Chairman)

Dur­ing the quar­ter the Board announced the appoint­ment of The Hon­ourable Andrew P Thom­son BA, LLB, LLM as non exec­u­tive Direc­tor of Athena Resources Lim­ited. Mr. Thom­son lives in Sin­ga­pore and works as a con­sul­tant to Minter Elli­son Lawyers work­ing in the Mid­dle East and Asia on invest­ment and gov­ern­ment rela­tions mat­ters. He is also chair­man of Citadel Resources Group Lim­ited (ASX — CGG) and chair­man of Gulf & Asian Min­ing Pty Ltd.

Until 2005 Mr. Thom­son lived in Wash­ing­ton D.C. where he served at the World Bank as an Assis­tant and Act­ing Exec­u­tive Sec­re­tary of the Inspec­tion Panel. In this role Mr Thom­son con­ducted inves­ti­ga­tions of devel­op­ing world projects. He also prac­ticed as an attor­ney with Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

Mr Thom­son spent the early years of his career in Tokyo work­ing as a fund man­ager for GT Man­age­ment (Japan) Ltd and later as an invest­ment banker at Credit Suisse-First Boston (Japan) focus­ing on Japan­ese equi­ties and fixed income funds and commodity-based derivatives.

Before mov­ing to Wash­ing­ton D.C. in 2001 Mr Thom­son was a Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment in Aus­tralia, rep­re­sent­ing a dis­trict in Syd­ney in the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives. Dur­ing the 1990s he served as Par­lia­men­tary Sec­re­tary for For­eign Affairs, Min­is­ter for Sport, Tourism, and Min­is­ter Assist­ing the Prime Min­is­ter for the Syd­ney 2000 Games, Chair­man of the Australia-Japan Par­lia­men­tary Friend­ship League, and Chair­man of the Joint Stand­ing Com­mit­tee on Treaties (JSCOT).

Mr Thom­son is a grad­u­ate of the Law Fac­ulty of the Uni­ver­sity of Mel­bourne, the Inter­na­tional Cen­ter of Keio Uni­ver­sity in Tokyo, and George­town Uni­ver­sity Law Cen­ter. His other lan­guages are Japan­ese, Man­darin Chi­nese, and Arabic.

Edmond William Edwards (Man­ag­ing Director)

BCom, ACA, FAICD

Mr Edwards is a Char­tered Accoun­tant with exten­sive expe­ri­ence in the resources sec­tor, com­bin­ing knowl­edge of pub­lic com­pany cap­i­tal rais­ings and finance with cor­po­rate com­pli­ance. He has been involved in tak­ing min­eral projects from the con­cep­tual stage to pub­lic list­ing. This exper­tise is exem­pli­fied by the suc­cess of both Fox Resources Ltd and Aztec Resources Ltd. As the Finance Direc­tor he was respon­si­ble for the suc­cess­ful floats of those com­pa­nies through to the suc­cess­ful re-commissioning of the Radio Hill Project for Fox and the strong posi­tion of Aztec to develop the Koolan Iron Ore Project.

He was also pre­vi­ously a Direc­tor of Mat­lock Min­ing NL which with Eagle Min­ing suc­cess­fully devel­oped the Nimary Gold Mine and Acclaim Explo­ration NL.

Mr Edwards was a part­ner at Hendry Rae & Court (now Grant Thorn­ton) until 1989 hav­ing joined that firm in 1975. He was the part­ner in charge of the Robe River Iron Ore Project audit for 8 years.

He recently resigned as Man­ag­ing Direc­tor of Resource Min­ing Cor­po­ra­tion Ltd hav­ing suc­cess­fully taken that com­pany to the fea­si­bil­ity stage at its Argyle Iron Ore Project and Wowo Gap Nickel Lat­erite Project.

Caigen Wang (Non Exec­u­tive Director)

PhD, CPEng, MIEAust, MAusIMM

As a qual­i­fied Engi­neer, Caigen has worked across most stages of project devel­op­ment and pro­duc­tion of wide range of com­modi­ties for the last 20 years. Caigen has a Bachelor’s degree, Mas­ter degree and PhD in Min­ing Engi­neer­ing. Caigen’s first 7 year pro­fes­sional expe­ri­ence was pro­vid­ing tech­ni­cal con­sult­ing ser­vices and research for a large num­ber of coal min­ing com­pa­nies in China. In the last 13 years, Caigen has worked in Canada on oil sands projects and mostly in Aus­tralia in a num­ber of senior tech­ni­cal, and man­age­ment roles for a range of com­pa­nies includ­ing BHP Bil­li­ton, St Bar­bara Min­ing, Sons of Gwalia, WMC and China Gold­mines Plc (CGM). Within CGM, his roles included Min­ing Man­ager and Gen­eral Man­ager for eight under­ground mines either in pro­duc­tion or project devel­op­ment. More impor­tantly Caigen was involved with explo­ration ten­e­ment acqui­si­tion, explo­ration and joint devel­op­ment of a num­ber of explo­ration projects in West­ern Australia.

Dr. Caigen Wang is a Char­tered Pro­fes­sional Engi­neer with the Insti­tu­tion of Engi­neers Aus­tralia (CPEng MIEAust) and a Mem­ber of the Aus­tralasian Insti­tute of Min­ing and Met­al­lurgy (MAusIMM).
